What do you think about this?
Bill Cower was the defensive coordinator for the Chiefs. He gets a head coaching gig for the Steelers. He wins a championship. Dick Vermeil goes to 2 Super Bowls with the Eagles and the Rams. He wins a championship with the Rams. Coaches the Chiefs as a fairly mediocre team.
Now Marty Shottenheimer has a damn good shot at winning it all this year. Let's say he wins the big one this year. That's a lot of KC Chiefs connections that couldn't do it here, but could in other places. I'm just curious if that will ever come back to Carl Peterson. It can't be a coincidence. Why can't we win here, but some of the same coaches can have success elsewhere??? Am I way off here?
I can't figure it out.

Marty had some success here. Three playoff wins (the only three in our lifetimes) and one appearance in the AFC Championship. But those teams were fatally flawed, and nowhere near the quality of the current San Diego team.
You're right though. Vermeil's teams here were even more flawed than Marty's teams. Of course, if you want to talk personnel flaws (which is the main problem) then there's only one guy you can blame.

Look at our draft history? It's terrible. Ryan Sims (that was Dick mainly, but still), Trezelle Jenkins, Sylvester Morris, any QB we've drafted in the last 25 years, Eddie Freeman, Siavii...ugh, I'm making myself sick.
Yes, very provacative. I just want to know where our salary cap money is going. How is it that the Colts can have Manning, Harrison and James (yes, I know he's with the Cards now) on the same team? They must be structuring contracts differently. We can't have more than one marquis player at a time somehow. Oh, I just remembered that we're still paying Priest Holmes. Awesome.
Yes, Marty had success here, but no one can win the big one here. I just don't get it. We have the fan base, we sell out every week. Sooner or later, it can't be all about the dollars. It's got to be about winning it all sometime. I think of some of the teams that have been to the Super Bowl since I've been alive and even won! Teams that are less than a third as old as the Chiefs organization. And some teams that are just garbage! The Bucs, the Ravens, the Bengals!
Further, every team in our division has made a Super Bowl appearance in my lifetime, except the Chiefs. Even the Chargers made it there with STAN HUMPHRIES as their quarterback. Ridiculous.
Oh, and it's not all about money and contracts. It's about getting the right guys on your team, which is obviously something we are not very good at.
I also think we are just giving the big $$$ to the wrong players. Who are the highest paid defenders - Surtain, Law and Kendrell Bell??? They are all "o.k." veterans, but not worth the multi-millions the Chiefs are shelling out.
